Alright, let’s talk product routine. It can be hard knowing what products you really need for each season. Especially knowing that everyone’s hair is different and responds to seasonal changes in their own unique way! Here we are in October. I am guessing that places that are not Southern California are actually having a season change. (Giggling to myself) Here in coastal San Diego our October is having a heat wave, feels like summer is still in the air. I’m not complaining- we’re totally weather spoiled.

Anyways, Regardless of where you are, what your October looks like… technically it’s fall. Fall means extra hair shedding, drier temperatures, recovery from summer and maybe some pumpkin spice products thrown in the mix. I’m going to talk specifically about the products that I carry in my salon at the moment, Davines and Olaplex. Now, though I carry them in person - you may also buy these products at a salon near you if you are not local to my salon area.

This blog is for everyone. And, some of the product advice may be interchangeable. For example: Say I suggest a certain routine that is specific to my brand of products but you have a different product line you prefer… that’s okay, just apply this routine and fill it in with similar products from your brand.

PRO TIP: You can normally go to a brand’s website to find a “salon locator” to see what salons near you carry. In my opinion, It’s great to buy from salons, because you don’t have to pay shipping & also you are supporting your local business’. (Win, win!) Of course, any of these combos can be interchanged to be custom to your specific hair needs. These are just my own combos that I love when finishing my guests’ hair. These are what I’ve been loving this early fall, but can be enjoyed anytime of year.

Here’s my rule of thumb with products that I learned at my first salon. Ive found it extremely valuable over the years and try to mention it to all my guests:

“SHAMPOO FOR THE HAIR THAT YOU HAVE, CONDITION FOR THE HAIR THAT YOU WANT.”

BEACH BEAUTY DRENCHED:

Who is this custom combo great for?

Someone who’s hair is feeling dry or brittle. Recently chemical treated hair. Someone who regularly lightens their hair. Someone who is in the sun a lot. Anyone who wants to pamper their locks.

Products:

OI MILK ($38/travel $20) - what I prescribe for everyone. No, really- this is something everyone should have. If you are going to use any one product from me - it’s this one!

Description: Lightweight OI All In One Milk is a multi-function leave-in spray treatment that softens, detangles, controls frizz and protects the hair from heat.

Olaplex #3 ($28)- This is the at-home version of the in-salon hair treatment designed to prevent and repair damage that comes along with coloring or lightening ... These bonds are responsible for holding together the keratin fibers that make up your hair, and they're often broken during a coloring process. I call this your pre-shampoo treatment, because unlike a conditioning treatment you wash it out after. This is also my “I’m cleaning the house today, so I’m going to let it sit on for an hour instead of 10 minutes, treatment.” (LOL)

DRUMROLL PLEASE… VEGETARIAN MIRACLE CONDITIONER ($42) - One of my holy grail products. If you know me, you know how often I change my hair… This and olaplaex have saved me. I also love the matching shampoo, which is called “Nourishing” - also in the natural tech line of Davines.

-Here’s your new routine for the BEACH BEAUTY DRENCHED:

ONCE A WEEK - Before the shower, wet your hair and ring it out extremely well. Apply Olaplex #3 to middle and ends of your hair and comb through. Let sit for 10 minutes or more. Shampoo out & follow with Vegetarian conditioner. After towel drying your hair, apply OI milk from mids to ends and comb or brush through. Air dry or blow-dry as normal.

DAILY OR ON SHAMPOO DAYS - Shampoo with desired product, condition with veggie miracle and follow with oi milk. OI milk may be used every time your hair is wet!

TIPS to remember: Apply shampoo only to scalp, condition only on mids & ends.

BEACH BEAUTY SHIMMER:

Who is this combo great for?

Someone who’s hair feels dull. Someone who’s hair feels brittle. Someone who’s color feels flat. Someone who has a lot of frizz.

Products:

OI OIL ($46/Travel $26) - What I like to call the “cousin of OI milk.” Multi-function oil, adds shine and softness to hair while also detangling and fighting frizz, working especially well on coarse or dry hair. The hair structure is left protected, without weighing it down. Major shine booster! My fav finishing product after beachy waves.

SPOTLIGHT CIRCLE DIY MASK ($10) - Mask for extra shine. It gives the hair a boost of shine and enhances colour and cut without weighing the hair down. Perfect for all hair types, in particular for dull looking ones.

THIS IS A SHIMMERING MIST ($34) - Glossy mist for shiny and velvety hair, adding shine and fighting frizz without weighing hair down.

-Here’s your new routine for the BEACH BEAUTY SHIMMER:

Once a week or as desired, apply the Spotlight mask to mids and ends of hair & let sit for at least 5 minutes. (I let mine sit for at least 10 minutes because I want to be glossy AF, ya know?)

After blowdrying and styling, pump OI oil into your palms and gently rub it into your hands. Then, run the product through your mids + ends lightly. Follow with the Shimmering mist wherever extra curl separation or frizz taming is needed! Or, simply for extra shine!

Tips: Remember, most products are to be kept off the scalp to avoid oily feelings and product build up.

BEACH BEAUTY DETOX:

Who is this combo great for?

Someone who has product build up. (IE: uses a lot of hair sprays or hold products) Someone who works out or sweats often. Someone who has hard water. (Most of us in San Diego) Someone who has problem achieving volume. Someone who swims or surfs often.

Products:

SOLU shampoo ($32) - Shampoo formulated to remove the residue of styling products. The rich and airy foam leaves the hair extremely clean.

SOLU sea salt scrub cleanser ($44) - Scrub shampoo with sea salt. It refreshes the scalp and removes impurities, product residues and polluting particles. It gives texture to the hair and keeps it clean and light for longer.

-Here’s your new detox hair diet: Include these two products once a week or every other week, to ensure a healthy scalp and minimal product build up. So great to reduce excess sebum (oil) build up on scalp! Great to use before your color appointment, not directly after!

BEACH BEAUTY LIFT:

Who is this combo great for?

Someone who has fine hair. Someone who enjoys body and volume towards their root. Someone who styles their hair regularly. Someone who loves movement and texture in their mane.

Products:

BLOWDRY PRIMER ($32) - Leave-in spray that primes hair for a perfect blowout. It serves as a heat protectant spray, an anti-humidity barrier and a shine-enhancer, reducing styling time. Slight hold and memory.

VOLU shampoo ($32) - Volumizing shampoo for fine or limp hair. It gently cleanses the hair making it soft and light with a lasting boost of body and volume.

LIQUID SPELL ($45) - Leave on treatment for sensitized or fine hair. It strengthens and compacts the hair structure giving vitality and body to the hair that looks healthier, silky and naturally shiny.

Shampoo and condition with the LOVE smooth combo. After towel drying, mix an even amount of LOVE smoother and THIS IS A RELAXING FLUID in your palm and then apply mids to ends prior to combing. Styl & smooth as usual.
