WINTER HAIR REMEDIES - DAY 3: TANGLES
HOW TO FIX TANGLES
1. Brush your hair throughout the day
This may sound simple, but sometimes the best solutions are the most logical! Keep a small paddle brush in your purse, and simply brush your hair periodically throughout the day to keep tangles at bay. This is especially for my girls who have textured or curly hair. Right around the nape (neckline) area of the hair gets tangles often.
2. Braid the under section of your hair
If you've experience hair tangling in the winter-time, it's likely at the nape (Like previously mentioned) of your neck where high collars and scarves cause the most friction. To avoid this, try braiding the section of hair at the nape of your neck to keep it out of the way. If you have a lot of hair, or it’s summertime and it’s up anyways - you’ll barely notice it. This is especially helpful during sleeping. Braiding is “safer” than buns.
3. Put your hair up
Or, you can simply avoid that dreaded tangled hair at the nap of your neck by putting your hair up into a high ponytail or messy bun. If you have a lot of hair, opt for that braid like I talked about earlier, though. Buns and high ponytails can not only be heavy (resulting in breakage) but also give you a tension headache.
4. Utilize detangling sprays and make sure you have the right brushes.
These open up your hair so that your tangles are easier to brush out. Picture this: detangling sprays are like the oil in the pan. (poor metaphor but you can picture it, right?) Or, use a small tooth comb that will help to separate your tangled locks. I am an advocate for owning two types of brushes at minimum: Wet brush (Great for detangling and also gentle on wet hair). Also, a firm paddle or vent brush. I suggest having both on hands because I truly think that a wet brush isn’t enough stimulation on the scalp. It’s so gentle, which is amazing, but we need that firmness to stimulate our scalp because it promote detoxing and follicle stimulation which aids in hair growth!
My favorite detangling sprays:
Davines All in one Oi Milk
It’s a 10 miracle leave in spray
Oribe run through detangling primer
R&CO Pinstripe detangling spray
Unite 7 seconds spray
Kristen Ess detangling tonic + Leave-in conditioner
There’s a lot of great ones out there, these are just my favorites that I have tried. Always ask if your hairstylist has one they recommend.
